Valentine’s Day may have come and gone, but an even better celebration just passed us by: Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. All of the best designers and the industries’ finest crowded into Lincoln Center and saw all of the looks for the upcoming season, gained massive sources of inspiration and developed ideas for colorful splash pages for their magazines.
Unfortunately, most of us weren’t there, but the media has already started trickling out images from the shows and soon enough, we’ll have a trend report from every major fashion influence magazine. I truly look forward to reviewing them all. However, in the meantime, it’s really only spring. It’s not even officially spring and we’re already talking fall, so let’s back up, shall we?
We’ve already read the fashion reports from last September’s fashion week, maybe you’ve even gotten a few cute pieces to mix into your wardrobe, but have you considered bringing your spring 2013 look into your lingerie styling? Why stop at the outer appearance when you can be chic top to bottom, from coat to skin?
Check out how you parlay some of these key trends into your lingerie. But you just wore some for Valentine’s Day? So what, be sexy you and your boo all season long.
Stripes are huge for spring. They always seem to reemerge in some form, whether it be sailor or sporty inspired. This season, there are no rules. Pair thick with thin stripes, chevron with a true zig zag, horizontal and vertical. Translate this into your lingerie by
Much like stripes, color is always a staple of spring, some times it comes to us in muted pastels, but the past few years its been all about vibrancy, first in neons and then brights. This season, it’s about electric colors–a kicked up version of the previous years. To make this look work, you can look for delicate chemises in an electric blue or vibrant pink. Pair it with a bright pair of fish nets or panties. You can find plenty of colorful options at Adam and Eve. On the topic of color, emerald has also been named the color of the year by Pantone and is guaranteed to look beautiful on any skin tone. Because this color is a little more permanent, snatch up a few staple lingerie pieces in emerald–a sexy bra, some hip hugging boy shorts and so on.
Sheer and cut outs:
Sheer has continued to be a huge fashion trend and thank god, because it’s sexy all on it’s own. Now, we can add “peek-a-boo” clothing to the mix. You’ve probably already seen this in a few dresses where the sides are cut out. You can easily translate both of these looks into your lingerie line up by looking for corsets and bustiers with cut-outs or sheer bras and baby-dolls.
Lace and Leather:
Much like peanut butter and jelly, these two looks go great together and can easily be transformed from day to night to well, bed time. Your best and sexiest way to do this is to invest in a beautiful leather corset. You’ll be able to wear this during the day with a jacket or sweater and then it can be pair with some lace panties at night. There’s something very innately sexy about the rugged and strong look of leather mixed with skimpy lace.
Ornate detailing and bold prints:
The runway saw a lot of ethnic and animal prints, as well as detailed beading and fabrics. Animal print is usually found in lingerie, so that look is a breeze. As for the ornate detailing, be on the look out for corsets that have brocade or jacquard fabric. Beading might have the tendency to snag on items, especially light weight, delicate fabrics, so you might want to pass that look by.
Now that you know, what look are you most excited about for this spring?
